“Guys don’t need a lot of Choices they just need the right choices.”
Quick question before we start. When is the exact day, where it’s a little odd wishing someone a Happy New year? Hopefully not today though. Low-key I feel like it its. Anyways, here goes, Happy New year to my Readers. See now that I have kept it on that line, it’s not so odd or is it? This being the first column for the guys this year, I thought we could start with some good old basics. A Guy’s Guide to Accessorizing. Yes, Austin, Guys accessorize as well. No am not talking about the 2 chains and swag overload kind of accessorizing, because let’s be honest, there is more to accessorizing and in today’s post, I will show you that and more.
Here is why accessorizing is Key. While for girls an accessory can just be that, an accessory. For guys, well not so Much. An accessory does say a lot about you without even noticing. This is why a little effort can definitely take you a long way. From the casual bits, to the Formal must-haves and the extras, here are…
Tips on Accessorizing
1.Belts & Suspenders
It’s said that “belt size” is about two to three inches larger than your waist size but scratch that. Who has time to start measuring a long piece of leather each time they are buying one. Personally, I always match and colour coordinate my belt to my shoe colour. Same to suspenders. Remember not only is wearing a belt and suspenders at the same time a huge faux-pas but also treason.
A watch can make or break an outfit. Therefore, it’s important to understand that there’s a watch for either formal or casual outfits. To be on the safe side I suggest you get one leather black watch and a weekender watch that comes with interchangeable straps. Having a variety won’t hurt though.
Neck wear is really important. The right kind of piece draws attention to your face and even adds colour to a fairly boring casual or business ensemble. Checks, stripes and spots are all popular options. About necklaces, a single mid-thick statement chain is a good starting point.
This is an essential Guy accessory. However, this doesn’t mean you can pick any sun glass, slap it on your face and call it a day. Any stylish and confident guy knows they look good, with or without some sunglasses and are also aware of the time and place for sunglasses. It’s important to Invest in a cool statement pair that goes well with the shape of your head. No Jed, don’t wear them at night, it doesn’t work that way.
5.Rings & Bracelets
Let’s face it wearing 3 rings on every finger a watch and a 3 bracelets is being over your head. The fewer the amount the cleaner the look.
Use thin socks for your everyday shoes, standard socks for your sneakers and thicker socks for your boots.
This involves the ties, cufflinks, tie bars, pocket squares and lapel pins. I call them weapons for a reason, they complement each other. Arguably, it’s wrong to match the colour and pattern of your tie to that of the pocket square.
