Wear stripes of every stripe
Everyone knows how much the choice of clothes means when it comes to highlighting or concealing certain parts of our bodies. There are various ways to make imperfections work to our advantage. Apart from using the right combination of clothes, prints such as stripes can be used to suit our individual body shape and help us pull of a winning look. Stripes have been in existence for as long as I can remember and they are most certainly not going away soon. The only thing that varies is the thickness and colour. For a long time now, stripes have been used for figure adjustment and creating visual illusions on the wearers body.
Fashion experts have promoted the idea that plus sized people should avoid horizontal stripes, claiming that such stripes make one look bulk. However, this advice is just plain wrong. Zebras have eaten people’s hearts out! Smh!
According to Dr. Herman Von Helmholtz a psychologist, “A square composed of horizontal lines appears taller and narrower than an identical square made up of vertical lines. Reporting this illusion, Hermann von Helmholtz noted that such illusions, were common in everyday life, adding the observation that ladies’ frocks with horizontal stripes make the figure look taller. This assertion runs counter to modern popular belief”
In summary whenever you want to conceal an area of your body, wear horizontal stripes. Besides, vertical stripes make you look taller than you are. Always keep in mind, the wider the stripe, the bolder the statement.
